Glenville State Founders Day of Giving breaks records | News, Sports, Jobs
GLENVILLE — This month’s donors broke Glenville State College’s previous records for the annual Founders Day of Giving fundraising campaign, raising more than $1.1 million.
More than 500 donations were made on Founders’ Day on February 19 and marked the largest giving day in college history.
Donations support 50 projects on campus, including departmental and athletic projects, scholarships, alumni and student projects, the Pioneer Fund and the President’s Circle.
Funds raised will go towards specific projects and needs, including keeping the campus pantry stocked, new drum equipment, a series of visiting lecturers in the Department of Social Sciences, Praxis grants for the Department education, travel and equipment support for sports teams, and funding. for a study trip abroad for students of the Ministry of Land Resources, among others.
The Founders Day of Giving campaign included several challenges, including a $500,000 matching donation challenge from the Morris Family Foundation. Any donations throughout the day counted toward the game, and when released, the $500,000 from the Morris Family Foundation went to the General Scholarship Fund to benefit as many students as possible.
“I am absolutely blown away by the generosity our donors and friends have shown for this year’s Founders Giving Day. It shows exactly what makes Glenville State College so special. Our alumni and friends, faculty, staff and students all came together to celebrate our great college while setting this new record for Giving Day. We are so grateful to everyone who helped make this day possible and we truly appreciate every gift,” David Hutchison, vice president for academic advancement and government affairs, said.
Founders Day of Giving 2022 was held on the 150th anniversary of the founding of the state of Glenville. The institution was created by an act of the West Virginia Legislature in February 1872.
“I would like to thank all of our generous donors from the bottom of my heart. Events like this exemplify how much we can accomplish when we come together for a cause so near and dear to many of our hearts.” Glenville State Chairman Mark A. Manchin said. “Every donation goes to improving our institution, our students and our employees. Once again, I say thank you to everyone who rose to the challenge and to our advancement team for organizing such an exceptional event. Go Pioneers!
